Raising rebels: Why we walk away from the religion of our childhoods

I was raised Catholic.

In grade school, our family was always pretty active in our church community. My mom was the church’s music director which meant she was in charge of the adult and children’s choirs (among several others). And like all good Catholic boys and girls, my brother and I sang in each of them.
