I’m the 1 in 4.

I’d never spotted between periods. Yet here I was, staring down at the splotches of dark color as I sat down in my bathroom.

“That’s weird,” I thought. Then my heart skipped. “What if I’m pregnant?”

I’d read about implantation bleeding. Another heart flutter. Could it be? After months of trying, was it really finally happening?

“No, it can’t,” logic said. I’d just gotten my period ten days before. I hadn’t even ovulated yet. Science said the spotting must be from something else—my heart said take a test just in case.

Of course since my husband and I had been trying to conceive (TTC) for about seven months, I had plenty of tests stashed underneath my sink.

I peed. I waited. I looked. I gasped.

A second—faint—pink line. How though? Like, medically. I may have traded all the knowledge from my high school education for the lyrics to nearly every 90's-early 2000’s song, but I know you’re not supposed to get your period when you’re pregnant. Of course I’d heard of rare exceptions…Maybe…

I texted my trusted TTC cheerleaders: my mom, my cousin and my sister-in-law. They were confused, too, but certain the test was positive. Excitement was starting to creep in for all of us, despite the strange circumstances.
